Dorchester Native Bill O’Brien Is Named As New Penn State Coach

Following the fallout of the Penn State scandal, Penn State recently named Dorchester Native Bill O’Brien as their head coach. O’Brien currently holds the position of offensive Coordinator for the New England patriots and will be leaving at the end of the Patriots post season run to begin his new role as the full time head coach of Nittany Lions. O’Brien was introduced in the ballroom of Penn State’s Nittany Lion Inn in front of a crowd of about 200, including media, school personnel, and others. O’Brien will earn $2.5 million per season, including a $950,000 base salary plus incentives. Not bad for a kid that grew up in Dot. To read the full story click here.

A New Market Opens In Dot

On Sunday January 8th 2012, the Dorchester Winter Farmer’s Market Will be opening in the Great Hall in Codman Square. This one of Boston’s only Winter Farmer’s markets. Many see this as the first step towards a brick-and-mortar co-op in Dorchester. This will be the only city market to accept EBT/SNAP and Boston Bounty Bucks. Hours are 12 – 3 p.m. on Sundays, Jan. thru March. The market will sell produce, breads, meats, cheeses and other items. Mayor Menino, State Rep. Tufts researchers study residents in South Boston and Dorchester
